Need a quick and effective way to make decisions about the content you’re publishing?

Or maybe to increase your social media engagement? Perhaps you just can’t decide on a name for your new company mascot? Twitter has you covered with their new (and now expanded) Twitter Polls feature.

People have been taking polls on Twitter for some time now, but it was a crude method of choosing to retweet for one option or favorite for the other. It worked, but it also had plenty of drawbacks including the fact that there was no anonymity involved. Whether someone retweeted or favorited, anyone could see how they voted. The new Twitter Polls feature solves these issues and gives you a great way to engage your followers and boost your Twitter marketing efforts.

Steps to Easy Marketing with Twitter Polls

Getting Started With Twitter Polls

Creating a poll on Twitter really couldn’t be any easier unless the platform was able to read your mind and automatically create what you’re thinking. With the current speed of technology, this is probably a feature set for next year some time, so for now you’ll still have to go through the tedious task of typing a few words. When you open the compose box to tweet there is a “poll” icon at the bottom right to click, which will give you two boxes to fill in for your two choices.

Twitter just added the ability to add up to two more options (for a total of four) in the last few days. And that’s it. Type your question as a tweet, fill in up to four choices for the poll, and click the tweet button. Done. The option is available on the web and from Android and iOS devices. The polls stay active for 24 hours after posting and can be pinned to the top of your timeline, retweeted (retweets still allow voting), and one of the coolest features is that the tweet pools can be embedded in a blog post or article allowing readers to vote without ever opening Twitter. Once someone has voted in a poll, they will see the results as they stand to that point. And no one will ever know how they voted unless they choose to tell someone.

Use Polls to Boost Engagement

More engagement is synonymous with boosted marketing efforts, and the great news is that people tend to love polls. It makes them feel like they have skin in the game instead of being preached to or marketed to. Twitter polls can be used for fun stuff like predicting who will win the game this weekend, but they can also give you a great way to get feedback on your products or services or give your followers input on the type of content you deliver to them. That’s a much more direct and effective way to get input than measuring analytics (not that you should abandon your analytics!).

To make the most of your polls, you should encourage retweeting (asking for retweets is proven to increase them), use hashtags (which improves reach and engagement), and embed them in your blog posts (to reach your audience that may not get on Twitter everyday). Frankly, this is one of the best features Twitter has rolled out in a long time for increasing engagement. Coming up with a poll is possibly one of the easiest ways to get people more involved and engaged, and the questions to ask are limited only by your imagination. So, how will you use twitter poll marketing to increase your own marketing efforts?
